Managing Direct Tax Backlog with LTCO
BACKGROUND
In 2015, the Luxembourg branch of a global Private Equity firm was dealing with a 5-years backlog of tax returns for around 20 different holding companies. This firm was growing, adding new companies each year, companies for which yearly corporate tax returns needed to be filed. The tax compliance burden was becoming too great to handle in-house, and the backlog meant potentially facing penalties and fines from the Luxembourg Tax Authorities.
HOW LTCO WAS ABLE TO HELP
The firm decided that the best solution would be to outsource the task of preparing tax returns, and shift responsibility for timely and accurate filing to a third party. This decision would also free up time for employees of the firm to focus on core business.
LTCO was able to provide the firm with a high-level analysis and a competitive pricing offer, taking into account both the volume of the corporate tax returns and their relative complexity. As an additional service and make tax compliance as easy as possible for the firm, LTCO offered to take care of the binding, delivering for signature, and depositing the tax returns with the Tax Authorities.
LTCO ADVANTAGE
As the backlog was handled by LTCO, the firm was especially satisfied with availability of senior members of LTCO staff, Directors with many years of experience in the domain of Luxembourg Tax compliance who could respond quickly to technical questions and offer proactive solutions, such as preparing for mandatory e-filing of corporate tax returns at the start of 2017, and the increase in penalties for companies which have not filed on time.
Today, LTCO has filed all back tax returns for each of the firm’s companies. LTCO is also in regular communication with the tax authorities, acting on the firm’s behalf and making sure that communication is as efficient and transparent as possible. The firm continues to trust LTCO with all corporate and VAT return filings.
